Serendipity
Photography found me. One day a small camera appeared in my hand. I don't recall which camera, or where it came from, but I went for a walk and took a photo and it wasn't bad. What struck me then was the randomness of the encounter, the image that appeared in a frame in my mind by looking out at a tree (it was a tree on a ridge in a field in Vermont, with nothing but sky and clouds behind it, as if hanging on the very edge of the world) before I lifted the lens to record it. Serendipity means an unexpected encounter that seems fateful, as if two paths were destined to cross. Photography is like that: Images you run into that lay there as if waiting, and only you can frame them in the way they wish to be held. If you love the world, I highly recommend you find photography, or let it find you.
